How Do You Reply When a Customer Asks Price on WhatsApp?

The short answer

Give the price when it is fixed, say what the amount includes, then ask one easy question that moves the purchase forward. If the price depends on size, quantity, location or date, name that dependency and ask only for the missing detail. Do not hide the amount behind a sales script.

A customer sends one word: “Price?” The useful reply is not a speech and it is not another obstacle. Give the amount if you know it, explain what that amount covers, and ask for the one detail needed to continue. If you cannot give a firm figure, explain exactly what changes it and when you can confirm it.

That approach respects the customer’s question. It also protects your business from an accidental promise. The difference matters even more when a reply is sent automatically.

What should a good WhatsApp price reply contain?

A good price reply contains an answer, enough context to understand the answer, and a simple next step.

Start with the amount. A person who asks the price is usually trying to decide whether the product belongs in their budget. Making them answer several questions before you reveal anything can feel like you are avoiding the point.

Then state what is included. Delivery, installation, tax, packaging, a minimum quantity or a service duration can change what the number means. One short line prevents the customer from comparing your complete offer with somebody else’s bare price.

Finish with one question that is easy to answer. Ask for the size, colour, quantity, area or date only when that detail changes the answer. Do not send a miniature intake form to somebody who asked a one-line question.

Illustration. Not a real customer.

“The blue shirt is [price], including standard delivery. Which size do you need?”

The placeholder is for your real confirmed price. The structure is the useful part: answer, context, next step.

Should you always give the price immediately?

Give it immediately when the amount is fixed and current. Hiding a known price does not make the product more valuable. It makes the customer work harder to judge it.

When the amount genuinely varies, do not pretend there is one fixed figure. Say what controls it. A tailor may need the garment type and fabric. A caterer may need the guest count and menu. A repair business may need a photo before it can distinguish a small fix from a replacement.

There is still a way to be useful before the final quote. You can give a confirmed starting price or range only if your business actually uses one. Name what moves the amount within that range. If you have no reliable range, say that plainly and promise only the next action you control.

SituationA useful replyWhat to avoid
Fixed, current priceGive the amount, what it includes and one next question“Contact us for price” after the customer already contacted you
Price changes by a known detailName the detail and ask for itA list of unrelated qualifying questions
Confirmed starting price or rangeState it and explain what moves the final amountPresenting an invented estimate as a quote
No reliable figure yetSay what you need to check and when you will returnGuessing, or promising a time another person controls

The fourth row is not a failure. “I need to check” is a better customer reply than a confident wrong number.

What should you ask after stating the price?

Ask the question that makes the next decision possible.

For a product, that may be size, colour, quantity, pickup or delivery. For a service, it may be the location, scope or preferred day. The question should have a short answer and a clear reason for being there.

Avoid generic endings such as “Let me know if you are interested.” They give the customer all the work of restarting the conversation. A specific choice is easier: “Would you prefer pickup or delivery?” The customer can answer without having to compose a sales decision.

Do not manufacture urgency. If an offer genuinely ends on a stated date, say so. If stock has not been checked, do not claim that only a few pieces remain. The point is to make the next step easy, not to pressure somebody with a fact you cannot prove.

When should a price reply stay with a person?

Some prices should not leave your phone without you reading the conversation.

A negotiated discount needs a person because the amount may depend on the customer, the order and your margin. Wholesale requests often change payment, delivery and minimum-quantity terms together. A complaint about an earlier order can turn a normal price question into a request for compensation. A custom job may contain details that no price list covers.

Stock is separate from price. Knowing what an item costs does not prove that it is available today. If nobody has confirmed availability, the honest reply is to check. The guide to answering stock questions without guessing explains that boundary in detail.

Write down the categories that always need you. Keep that list practical. The goal is not to automate every conversation. It is to remove the repetitive ones without giving away judgment that belongs to the owner.

Can the free WhatsApp Business tools answer price questions?

Yes, when your common answers are stable. WhatsApp Business provides tools such as quick replies and a catalog. Its own business guidance recommends giving one clear answer and a specific next step, and using catalog information that matches the questions customers already ask.

A quick reply is often enough for a fixed service fee, a delivery policy or a popular product. Save the sentence once, insert it when needed, and adjust the customer-specific detail before sending. This costs nothing beyond the time to set it up.

A catalog helps customers see products and prices before they message. It will not stop every price question. People ask because they want confirmation, they saw an older post, or they need to know whether delivery changes the total. Treat the repeated question as information about what your catalog or profile still leaves unclear.

If quick replies cover your inbox, use them. You do not need an AI app merely to send one fixed sentence.

When does an AI reply become useful?

An AI reply becomes useful when the same business fact appears inside many different questions.

One customer writes “price?” Another names a colour but not a size. A returning customer refers to “the one I bought before.” A template needs the exact trigger you anticipated. A system that reads the question can use the relevant business information and phrase a new answer for that conversation.

WhatsAssist is built for that second case. You give it your real business details. It answers incoming messages on WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger from the account where the message arrived. It sends by itself after setup, on every plan. One switch turns automatic sending off, after which replies wait in the app for you to read, edit and send.

There are limits worth knowing before installing. It is for Android 10 and up, not iPhone. It does not start conversations, run campaigns or send bulk marketing messages. It cannot turn an unknown amount into a fact. If a price was never supplied, it should defer rather than invent one. If a reply needs a person, it is held with a reason instead of going out silently.

See how WhatsAssist uses business facts and conversation context, then compare the four plans and their included allowances. The free allowance is a way to test real questions, not a permanent monthly free tier.

What information should you prepare before automating prices?

Start with the questions already in your inbox. Do not begin with a generic sales script.

For each common product or service, record the current price and what it includes. Add the conditions that genuinely change it. State whether delivery is included, separate or dependent on area. Record the wording you use when a customer asks for a discount. Write a safe deferral for anything that requires you.

Check the information whenever your prices change. Automation repeats whatever you taught it, including an old amount. A clean price list with an owner and a review date is more valuable than a large collection of polished templates.

Test from another phone before relying on it. Ask for a fixed price, then ask an ambiguous price question, then request a discount. Confirm that the first gets the right answer and the other two stop where your rules say they should. The broader guide to improving customer response without sounding robotic shows how to review the whole conversation, not only its speed.

Does an automatic price reply send promotions too?

No. Answering an incoming question is not the same as sending a promotion. WhatsAssist only replies after somebody messages you. It has no campaign list and no bulk-send tool. If you want broadcasts, scheduled promotions or cold outreach, this is not that product.

That distinction is useful for the customer too. A person who asks a price should receive the answer to that request, not be enrolled into a sequence of follow-ups they never asked for.

Frequently asked questions

Should I state the price before asking questions?

State it first when it is fixed. If a missing detail changes the amount, explain that dependency and ask only for that detail. Do not make a customer complete a questionnaire before revealing a price you already know.

What if the customer asks only “price?”

Name the product if you can identify it, give the confirmed amount and what it includes, then ask one practical next question. If you cannot identify the product, ask which item they mean before quoting anything.

Can an automatic reply negotiate a discount?

Keep negotiation with a person unless you have explicit, current rules that cover the request. A fixed public discount is different from deciding how far to reduce a price for one customer.

Can WhatsAssist answer price questions on an iPhone?

No. WhatsAssist depends on Android notification access and requires Android 10 or newer. There is no iPhone version or announced release date.
